You get what you Pay for – and More.
The amount you choose to invest in a motorsports sponsorship depends on a variety of factors including the level of the motorsport series, the level of the team, the level of the driver, and how prominent you want your brand, product, or logo to be. The impact can be like no other.
Global, series and event sponsorships allow sponsors to promote themselves on all vehicles in all events of a particular event or series of events. They often include venue branding as well as branding on promotional material and social media. These broad sponsorships can range from US$5,000 per season to as much as US$40 - US$50 million per season for NASCAR – and even more for F1. Becoming an official partner of IMSA is typically in the range of US$750,000 to US$4 million per season and includes trackside branding. Sponsoring series and events for rally and vintage sportscar race series and events require much less.
Primary Sponsorships for sports cars, historic and vintage cars allow for promotion on specific vehicles and are typically sold directly by teams on a per-car, per-season basis. Sponsorships range from US$10,000 per car for a season for some rally cars, vintage and sportscar series to as much as US$100 million to sponsor a Formula1 team.
IMSA, WEC Formula2 and Formula3 team sponsorships typically cost US$200,000 to US$3 million per season and also may include trackside advertising and branding as well as opportunities for engagement with fans.

HP is rumored to have spent US$90 million to support a single season of Ferrari F1; Petronas is reported to spend about $65 million per season to sponsor the Mercedes AMG F1 Team. Even lesser ranked teams, such as Alfa Romeo and Haas attract millions. MoneyGram’s sponsorship of HAAS F1 for example was reported to be about US$20 million / season, while Duracell’s sponsorship of Williams F1 team was reported to be about US$6 million per s season.)
“Associate” sponsorships are sometimes available for sportscars as well as vintage and historic cars. These involve less prominent (smaller) vehicle branding than that offered to primary sponsors for less, but still offer excellent value. Typical sponsorships are US$10,000 per season per rally car or sports car – to US$3-4 million per car for higher level series. NASCAR associate sponsorships, which might allow your company to place a logo on the bonnet (hood) or boot (trunk) lid can cost US$2 to US$10 million per season.
Trackside advertising, in-circuit billboards and similar venue branding is also available in some cases. Typical trackside promotion ranges from US$30,000 per season for sportscar races and rallies, to US$10 million per F1 race. Pricing depends in part on the level of the event or series as well as the location and prominence of branding.
Driver: It is also sometimes possible to sponsor individual drivers - having your company, brand, or product logo featured prominently on a driver’s helmet, gloves and/ or racing suit. The cost of driver sponsorship can vary depending on the popularity and success of the driver. Driver sponsorships range from a few thousand US dollars per season to US$1 - US$5 million dollars per year in F1.
